This blog. Everything about it. From the absurd title, to talking like the players are his buddies, to making fun of fat people, to the self-satisfied musical references (we honestly can't believe we survived reading this sentence: "It's an unreal soulful groove, with great lead vocals, tight musicianship, meaningful lyrics and church-choir-inspired harmonies to die for"), to the fratty know it all-ish tone. It is everything that made Aces so annoying to read x10,000. Just UGH.
you nailed it

I think on tv/radio his smugness is intolerable and unwatchable. He comes off like a big, bloated version of Jason Segel. However I don't share your criticism of his blog, at least based on the link's sampling. Although I wretched when he was name-dropping Michael Keaton as his "buddy". What a pretentious lout!

to be fair, in person he is very friendly and personable to fans. He doesn't come off as smug in person, which at times he does in print.
I've never seen him on TV and only rarely have I heard him on the radio.

Oh, please! You loathe somebody you've never met (or didn't make mention of). How smug of you.
Guess what--he *is* buddies with some of the players, so maybe...nah.
I enjoy his writing immensely. If you don't like his style of writing, that's one thing; but to title this entry as a personal attack is ludicrous.

OAD's comments were aimed squarely at the contents of Urban's blog and "Aces", and not on the man himself (hateful as he is for his weird droning monotone, weird on-air KNBR persona, over-defensive Athletics Nation feud against his many detractors there, etc.. etc.. etc...)
Also, even if he IS buddies with the players, maybe he should write with some journalistic detachment. I don't see Gammons making himself out to be buddies with anyone, even though he probably got invited to Youkilis' kid's bris and is the #1 guy on Epstein's speed-dial. Anyone can loathe Urban's writing style, just as they can loathe any other public person's public actions. Loathing his writing = loathing him. Nothing wrong with that.
