This might be one of the more shocking revelations in OAD history...but we are managing a fantasy baseball team. Let there be no confusion: we still hate fantasy basball. There is nothing fantastic about it in our minds. Indeed, looking at players as though they are nothing more than statistical pieces of meat, and acting as though team loyalty doesn't mean anything, is about as anathema to our baseball philosophy as you can get. But, someone invited us. So we thought we would give it a try. And we took it as a chance to conduct an experiment: if we stick to our values can we have any amount of success in the world of fantasy baseball? By sticking to our values we mean this. No Angels on our fantasy team. No hateful players on our fantasy team. No one with terrible facial hair on our fantasy team. No one on our fantasy team who routinely hurts the A's or acts like a jerk or beats his wife or anything else that we consider gross. We had to auto draft (because another one of our rules is that we are not staying at home on a beautiful Saturday to draft an imaginary baseball team) and we tried to exclude everyone we hate. As you will see, we missed a few. But we got some great guys too. And we got the first pick. So we have Hanley Ramirez. Who is supposed to be awesome and we are going to learn to love. Although we already wonder if we have departed from our values by not picking some guy like Brad Ziegler first. Anyway, we really have no idea what is going to happen. Here is our team:
- A.J. Pierzynski -- C/CWS
- Adrian Gonzalez -- 1B/SD
- Kelly Johnson -- 2B/Atl
- Aubrey Huff -- 3B/Bal
- Hanley Ramirez -- SS/Fla
- Matt Holliday -- OF/Oak
- Carlos Lee -- OF/Hou
- Jermaine Dye -- OF/CWS
- Lastings Milledge -- OF/Wash
- James Loney -- 1B/LAD
- Jeff Francoeur -- OF/Atl
- Mark Ellis -- 2B/Oak
- Chris Snyder -- C/Ariz
- Chase Headley -- 3B,OF/SD
- Chad Billingsley -- SP/LAD
- Scott Kazmir -- SP/TB
- Francisco Cordero -- RP/Cin
- Chris Perez -- RP/StL
- Scott Baker -- SP/Minn
- Kevin Slowey -- SP/Minn
- Gavin Floyd -- SP/CWS
We are planning to trade A.J. as soon as we can, obviously. And we are excited to get to know who the heck all of those random pitchers are. It will be interesting to see how our experiment goes and whether it is fun. If you happen to have any thoughts or pointers for us, we'd love to hear them.
Hypocrites! No hateful players!? Yet A.J. Pierzynski is the first name I see!?!?!? BLASPHEMY!!!!!
