D.J. to the Non-D Rays
We love rhyming things. So that makes us think that Dan Johnson to the team formerly known as the D. Rays isn't so bad. D.J., D. Rays sounds pretty good.
Even though Dan Johnson never really made a mark in Oakland, we still like him. He is quirky (even his medical ailments are quirky -- dry eyes?). He has personality. And he had (a few) great baseball moments here.
We wish him the best.
Go A's!
I have this horrible feeling that he will turn into a Scott Brosius-esque 20-HR hitting folk hero. He was inconsistent and plagued with bizarro maladies, but I witnessed a couple of majestic homers from him, and a few very impressive hot streaks (remember when he hit homers in 3 or 4 straight games in Minnesota?). Also, he seemed to be pretty solid, defensively. Daric Barton has made some crazy-bad plays this year. With "K"ust looking so terrible, we are a DB wrist injury away from not having much depth at 1B.

Is this the opportune time to say that I miss Nick Swisher? Y'all know I've been saving it...

Even with that ghastly white goatee? C'mon Anna! I'll admit it though that I actually miss Swish, too. Seems like he's fitting in well with the Pale Hose, and doing a great job as a lead off guy (!). DJ will be a good fit for the Rays. He certainly had his moments. Good streak hitter.
Is Mike Sweeney able to play 1B? Or has he been taken off the field and put into the pasture (the green verdant pasture of designated hitting, where all former power-hitting first basemen are relegated to late in their careers). Two more weeks before we pull the plug on "K"ust? Sadly he still has a decent OBP, which makes him valuable in the eyes of Mr. Beane.

I haven't seen pictures of Nick's beard yet, but I've heard terrible things. Clearly he's acting out his emotions because he hasn't dealt with the loss of me yet.

The first A's pitcher to be a multi-game winner this year? Joey Devine!
Go ahead and collect your winnings for those who had Joey Devine in the pool.
Surely someone had him. Anybody?

There's somebody on our team named Joey Devine?

Someone has to export the LF bleachers "DJ" chant to St. Petersburg....
