After the frustrations of watching the A's fail to clinch this weekend, we almost forgot how magical it was to have Roy Steele back on Saturday, even if it was just for the day. We are so glad Eugene reminded us!
Hi, Oakland A's Days, this is Eugene. Were you at the game Saturday? Did you hear Roy Steele come back? His voice was a little weak but he still had the same personality. I missed him. He had a rare disorder of the esophagus. If he rests this winter, I think he can come back for 2007. He was an independent Baptist minister for 17 years and announced at Marine World Africa USA. He is on SSI and enjoyed golf. I like his announcing style. Sometimes he says, "Now batting" before the batter's name. When the hitter hits for the first time he will say, "Now batting #16 Garrett Anderson LF." When the hitter bats for the second time he will say, "Now batting DH Milton Bradley.'' When the batter leads off, he says, "Leading off for Texas first baseman Frank Catalanotto." Robert Buan should invite Roy Steel back on "Extra Innings'' as a guest. Do you think the Oakland Athletics should have a Roy Steele day? I think that would be a good idea because he has done so much for the organization.
I would hear Roy Steele when I was a child.
Maybe the fans can share their thoughts on Roy Steele on your blog?
I was at the game on Saturday and totally agree with Eugene that having Roy Steele back was incredible. His voice didn't sound exactly the same, but there were moments when it felt just like old times (for instance, when he did the Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water sports highlight). After the game we saw him in the parking lot near where the players drive out. He looked really happy to see all the fans. I so so so hope he is back next year.

The organization needs "the voice of God" back in Oakland.

It's been traumatic for us A's fans to not have Bill King OR Roy Steele this year. We need Mr. Steele to stay healthy and return permanently.
