There is an A in TEAMINESS, But is There a Blog in 19 Out of 23?

Hmmm, need we say that all of this winning by the A's really is great?  There is no doubt that this is a good time to be an A's fan.  The A's are getting pitching that is anywhere between quality to amazing, the defense has sparkled of late and the offense is getting its job done.  We really could not be happier about the whole experience.  And of course, we particularly love how all this allows the A's teaminess to shine.  Urban mentions a few good things on the official site today, about how all the second basemen love each other and how well Jayton is fitting in.  It's just great.  But quite frankly, all this simple positivity is challenging to our creativity.  How are we to blog when all we can say is "the A's were amazing again last night.  Go A's!"?

Starting pitching, bullpen, on base average, power hitting and defense are all keys to winning in baseball but defense is the least talked about. Jayton's play last night turned the game around. Ginter's huge diving leap will only serve to motivate Chavey to continue his Gold Glove work at third. We are spoiled in Oakland and expect great defense everyday. Plays like Kotsay made a few weeks back when he deeked out the base runner and pretended he would catch a fly ball and then threw him out can be the difference between a win and a loss. Of course Keilty made a huge mistake last night in the first and I had a really bad feeling that would cost us.

Macha was brilliant to stick with Blanton eventhough the rookie was struggling. It is very important to show patience with this guy and this will build the young pitcher's confidence.

both those plays were on sportscenter's top 10 last night! i know A's fans shouldn't pay too much mind to espn, but it's still nice to see the A's getting some props.

also, great point about Macha. that guy doesn't get enough credit.

I watched Jayton play with the Mets, and I never liked him much. But darn it if he ain't growing on me!

Possibly my favorite moment last night (other then the 27th out of course) was Jayton's post-game interview, talking about his "ugly jump." Gotta love that kind of self-deprecation.

And yeh, it was plenty ugly.

Speaking of ESPN props - 3 out of the 4 sportsmouths on ESPN's "Around The Horn" see the A's now as legitimate contenders, and laud the genius of Billy Beane. They weren't on at their usual 47 past the hour (a good 42 minutes behind the Yanks and Sawx), but on at 12 past the hour. Only slightly off-topic: good explanation in today's Chron on the A's TV schedule (and why they aren't on, and why I'll have to pay sports bar liquor tabs the next two days and eat fried zucchini). Jayton has been a great surprise - making me eat my words. That's fine because I really need to go on a diet. I hope my words are "Atkins-friendly". Those zucchini won't be. Hold the batter.
